A Guelph male faces several charges following a series of collisions and aggressive driving on Friday.

Approximately 11:55 a.m. police received several calls about a motor vehicle being driven dangerously in the parking lot of an apartment building on Gordon Street near Arkell Road. The driver was quickly accelerating, causing the vehicle to lose traction and slide around corners. His vehicle collided with three parked vehicles, causing significant damage, before the male fled northbound on Gordon Street in his vehicle.

A short time later, a motorist reported the same vehicle ran a red light at Gordon Street and East Ring Road and then passed another vehicle in the bicycle lane. The suspect vehicle then clipped the rear of another vehicle while attempting to pass it on Norfolk Street north of Waterloo Avenue, causing the other vehicle to swerve and collide with a concrete barrier.

Two passengers in the male’s vehicle – a 19-year-old male and 18-year-old female – were transported to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

When police attempted to arrest the male, he began struggling and trying to punch and kick officers. He was later determined to be under the influence of controlled substances.

A 21-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving, fail to remain at a collision and resisting arrest. His driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court Feb. 26.
