Peterborough man arrested in connection with Guelph library bomb scare

Man allegedly made threats to several libraries across the country

A 40-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested in connection with bomb threats made to several libraries, including the Guelph Public Library.

Guelph Police say that on Monday and Tuesday man emailed bomb threats to various libraries, schools and hotels across Ontario and in Vancouver. One of these threats resulted in Guelph Public Library branches being evacuated on Tuesday evening while an investigation took place.

The Peterborough Police Service took over the investigation when information was received that the messages were being sent from an address in Peterborough.

On Tuesday at 10:10 p.m., investigators executed a search warrant on a Peterborough residence. The male was subsequently arrested.

The man was charged with:

- Eight counts of convey false message

- Eight counts of public mischief

- Two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm

The male was held in custody and attended court on Wednesday, where he was remanded in custody and was scheduled to appear in court Friday.
