Car theft suspect located

On May 1 of this year there was a vehicle stolen from a driveway on Raspberry Lane that was later recovered. Investigation into that incident resulted in a 27-year-old Guelph man being identified as responsible. On the morning of Wednesday, June 7, that male was seen riding a BMX bike on Carden Street and he was arrested. It was then learned that the bike he was riding had reported stolen in 2015.

He was held in custody to appear in bail court, charged with two counts of possession of stolen property and breach of probation.

Dog leash reminder

Earlier this week, police responded to a Guelph Park where a seven month old, large breed puppy was off leash and began playfully chasing a young girl at a soccer practice. Understandably the girl did not know the dog and was quite upset and frightened. This led to an altercation between the dog’s owners and the girl’s coach. The owners were unaware of the City By-law regarding when and where dogs can be off leash. They also said people run dogs off leash all the time in the park, so they did not see the issue regarding their large friendly, 70lb puppy. No one was injured and no charges were laid, but the owners were directly advised of the By-Law.

There are some parks in the city where it is permitted to have your dog off leash but when you are off your own property, they must be leashed. If you are a dog owner, please take the time to read about your responsibilities as a pet owner here at http://guelph.ca/living/pets-and-animals/leash-free-zones-for-dogs/ .
