Vehicle locked on radar at 160km/h in 80km/h zone

On Jan. 28, 2018 at approximately 4:40 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was monitoring traffic on County Road 7, Township of Mapleton. The officer observed a male operating a motor vehicle at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 160 km/h.

A traffic stop was conducted and while speaking with the driver, officers formed the belief that he was impaired by alcohol. A roadside screening device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further testing.

44-year-old David Jason Munroe of North Perth has been charged with driving with over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood, drive motor vehicle with open liquor and racing.  A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on Feb. 23, 2018.
