The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:
Suspicious person call leads to arrest
On March 6, 2019 at 1:36 a.m., the Guelph Police went to bank located on Gordon Street South for the report of two males that appeared to be going through the bank receipt garbage. Investigation determined that one of the males was in breach of a curfew condition and he was arrested. The other male was identified and sent on his way.
The 58-year-old Guelph man has been charged with failing to comply with recognizance. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Theft from car
On March 5, 2019 at 8:02 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Wyndham Street North parking lot to investigate a possible abandoned car. Investigation determined that this was a theft from car incident. The front passenger window had been smashed to gain entry and a lap top computer was taken.
This crime is easily avoidable. Please lock your cars and do not leave and belongings visible. If you do become a victim of this crime you can report it through the Guelph Police online reporting portal.
Collisions
On March 5, 2019 the Guelph Police investigated six collisions within the city. Four of these collisions were two car crashes, one was a three car rear end crash, and the final was a parked car being struck in a parking lot.
Reduce the risks:
• Always wear your seat belt.
• Be aware of traffic around you by looking ahead, behind, and from side to side and make sure other road users see you and they know what you are doing.
• Keep a safe distance from other vehicles.
• Check your mirrors and find your blind spots - and don't drive in other driver's blind spots.
• Don't make sudden lane changes, use your signals.
• When stopping, check mirrors and begin braking early and stop smoothly.
• Don't crowd your driving space with passengers or belongings.
• Keep to the right of the road or in the right-hand lane on multi-lane roads unless you want to turn left or pass another vehicle.
• Slow down as you come to intersections and look carefully for traffic lights, pedestrians and cyclists.
• Obey the speed limit and all signs and signals.
