MINTO — The Town of Minto has approved 600 new residential lots in the past 12 years and when all built out, will result in 1,850 new residents.

The information was presented in the 2010-2022 Building Statistics 12 Year Review was presented to council earlier this week.

“When you look at the estimated person per household number from the county of these new lots, it will bring in roughly 1,850 new residents to be housed,” said Ashley Sawyer, planning technician.

“Due to the work of this council, previous councils, and councils to come, approximately 600 new lots have been created or will be created within the urban boundaries of Clifford, Harriston and Palmerston.”

The 600 lots are at various stages, with many being already built.

“Clifford is expected to see 181 new lots, Harriston 136 and Palmerston 303.”

There has been growth of some nature going on over the past 12 years.

Thirty eight acres of land was transferred to Palmerston to speed up growth there.

Providing rental housing is also a priority.

“Over the course of the past 12 years, council has looked at 464 planning applications or reports.

“Development fosters economic growth and a prosperous community, provides housing for residents, and directly relates to our economic development, and providing jobs for these residents.”
