More Black History Month events in Centre Wellington

Events include museum exhibit, discussion on Richard Pierpoint and musical performance

CENTRE WELLINGTON — The Centre Wellington Black Committee is marking Black History Month with a number of events.

Ongoing until July 9, the Wellington County Museum and Archive will be hosting Our Stories. Our History. Our Heritage. It is an exhibit by the Guelph Black Heritage Society exploring the past, present and future.

On Feb. 16, the Global African Icons Exhibit will be held at Upper Grand School Board to feature African-Canadian, African-American, African-Caribbean and continental African inventors and innovators.

On Feb. 18, at 7 p.m., Awakened Voices will include poets Clifton Joseph, Klyde Broox, Sydellia N’Diayet and J. Nichole Noel performing at The Brew House.

On Feb. 23 at 7 p.m., via Zoom and through the Wellington County Historical Society, author Peter Meyler will give a talk on Richard Pierpoint’s experiences as a slave, soldier and community builder. (Reserve your spot at wchs.ca)!

On Feb. 25, there will be a second Awakened Voices event at The Brew House at 7 p.m.. Singer-songwriter Belinda Brady and pianist Eddie Bullen will perform.
