FERGUS — Wellington County will be remembering those killed in action at two upcoming events.
As a Remembrance Day commemoration, the Wellington County Museum and Archives will have over 500 markers on the front yard. Every marker will have a name of someone from the county who fell in the First World War, Second World War, Korea or Afghanistan.
The first of two remembrance events will be held on Nov. 3, at 10:30 a.m., on the museum front yard. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion will read the names of all Wellington County residents killed in combat. Refreshments will be served afterward.
The second event will be held on Nov. 10, at 5:30 p.m. The museum will provide candles. Then a candle will be placed at every marker, commemorating Wellington County’s fallen. The candles will stay lit through November 11, Remembrance Day.
Kyle Smith, the activity programmer, hopes to have a big turnout for each of the two events. Anyone who cannot attend the events in person may review the Wellington County Remembers page on the Wellington County Museum and Archives website. It has a list of each fallen soldier from Wellington County with a photo and bit of information for each person.
