On May 14, 2019, the Guelph Police Service attended a collision at the intersection of Edinburgh Road North and Willow Road in the City Of Guelph. Investigation determined that at approximately 11:36 a.m., a 57-year-old Guelph male operating an electric wheelchair was crossing within the intersection when he was struck by a four door sedan which was operated by a 49-year-old Guelph female. The sedan then partially left the roadway and struck a cement retaining wall on the east side of the roadway.

The male was transported to the Guelph General Hospital by members of the Guelph Wellington Paramedic Services. He sustained significant injuries as a result of the collision. The female driving the sedan was uninjured.

On May 21, the male passed away from complications relating to the injuries.

On Aug. 21, the female driver of the sedan was charged with careless driving causing death under the Highway Traffic Act. She will appear in court on Sept. 18, 2019.
