More racing charges on Hanlon Expressway

Both drivers were locked on radar in excess of 135 km/h

On Dec. 19, 2017 at approximately 9 a.m., a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph near Laird Road, City of Guelph. The officer observed a male driving a 2017 Ford Fusion at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 135 km/h.

Forty-one-year-old Mir Adeel Abid of Markham has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Feb. 7, 2018. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.  

Later that day at approximately 1:15 p.m., an officer was monitoring traffic at the above location. The officer observed a male driving a 2017 Toyota Corolla at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 135 km/h.

Seventy-six-year-old Khawaja Sadiq Hayat of Guelph has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Feb. 7, 2018. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
